IS Lemon Water As Good As They Say?

    I love lemons so it is probably not surprising that I enjoy lemon in my water, hot or cold.  Usually I start the morning with half a lemon in a hot cup, filling it two or three time, sometimes using it throughout the day.   The other half goes in my water bottle to mix with the cold water and I refill and drink from that all day, eating the lemon slices at the end of the day.  Lemon in general is good for you because of the high fiber and antioxidant properties, but lets look at the benefits of adding lemon to your water.

Because your digestive system is overworked already, cold beverages first thing in the morning don’t give your body time to “wake up”.  The best wake up for them is warm lemon water first thing in the morning because:
  • balances to maintain the pH levels in the body
  • helps flush out toxins/diuretic
  • aids digestion/production of digestive juices
  • hydrates your lymph system
  • aids in weight loss/management
If you are just starting to eat more alkaline, warm lemon water can be a great way to detox your dependence on coffees and teas first thing in the morning.
 
Lemon water throughout the day helps keep your body’s ph balanced, digestion/metabolism operating correctly, as well as:
  • prevents the growth and multiplication of pathogenic bacteria that cause infections and diseases
  • reduces pain and inflammation in joints and knees as it dissolves uric acid
  • common cold remedy/prevention
  • nourishes brain and nerve cells
  • source of vitamin C, citric acid, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium
  • prevents the formation of wrinkles and acne
  • helps maintain eye health
  • replenish body salts
 
    As you can see, there are many benefits to adding lemon (or lime if you prefer) water into your daily routine.  If you do not like citrus fruits maybe start with a small slice and try to work your way up from there.  If you really can’t stand flavored water, try just warm water first thing in the morning and then continue to drink water all day.  The more water you drink, the better flushed your system is, you are hydrated, and everything will be working as it should.
